Our Story
In May of 1974, Landmark Baptist Church (Winchester, KY) was planted as a mission work out of Bryan Station Road Baptist Church (Lexington, KY). Brother Kevin Kendall served as the Mission Pastor. The church was originally located on Watts Road in Winchester In 1976 Landmark was organized as a New Testament Baptist Church. Pastor Clyde Hancock served as the first Pastor of this new independent Baptist church until March of 1979. Under the leadership of Pastor Jim Muncie (1979-1990) the church saw tremendous growth. The third man to lead this congregation was Pastor Jerry Huffman (1990-1992), followed by Pastor Wayne Mullins (1992-1994), then Pastor Jim Taves (1994-1996) and Pastor Craig Wilson (1997-1999). Landmark Baptist Church called Pastor Jim Muncie to once again lead their congregation. He served in this capacity from 2000 until his retirement in November of 2024. In November of 2024 the church called Jeff Harris to serve as the church’s eighth Pastor.
In 1980, under the leadership of Pastor Jim Muncie, the church purchased five acres of land on Ironworks Road. The first church building was constructed by the men of the church (1980-1981). Once again, Pastor Muncie led the men in the construction of their second church auditorium (1986-1987). In 1988 the church purchased an additional five acres with a house and a garage. Pastor Muncie would lead Landmark to build a gymnasium with Ray Watson serving as the General Contractor (2006-2007).
Landmark Baptist Church began a Bus ministry in the early days of its ministry and at one time operated a Christian academy. Today the Church runs three bus routes and a Seniors bus on Sunday mornings and five bus routes and a Senior bus on Wednesday evenings. As of 2024 Landmark supports 143 missionaries around the world.
